Garage Renovation - My Bright Corner Studio

Last year had some big changes for Bright Corner, we moved house in the Spring, so I had to say goodbye to my little garden studio. Our new house needs lots of work but one of my priorities was to convert our garden garage into a new Bright Corner studio space.

We needed to do this as cheaply as possible, so my dad did a lot of the internal work, we used a local handy man for the exterior and I managed the project. We decided to split the space in half, keeping the side next to the drive a garage. So the first task was to replace the existing door and add a patio door at the end and a new window. We needed to add a lintel above the window and move the guttering, replace some barge board but it was fairly straight forward.

We went for timber windows and doors and I painted them a pale yellow. I wanted the exterior to stand out from the brick house behind so I decided to paint it white, which I love!

Next was the interior. Our handyman wired up the space using the existing electrics in the garage and added some

power points and lights, inside and out.

The garage was just brick so needed to be insulated to make it a space you could comfortably work in and keep stock safe. My dad came to stay and started building a wooden frame to hold the insulation in place. He then cut the insulation to size and pushed it into the frame, sealing with silver tape.

We then boarded the walls with ply and the floor with MDF as it’s more durable and we needed something suitable for a suspended floor.

2nd fix electrics then could be completed.

It isn’t 100% finished as we need to put some skirting around the bottom edge but I have moved my Bright Corner stock in, added some racking and I am slowly making it a creative, inspiring studio space. I have lots of ideas, including planting lots of colourful flowers outside, so I can gaze out on a summers day and feel connected with nature.
