Create a cosy corner with a wall hanging lamp

I recently came across a problem in our lounge, we have a dark corner behind our sofa and we use to have a floor lamp but it made the sofa a weird angle and it always bothered me. So I decided to create a wall lamp using the mains plug behind the sofa, as I didn’t want the hassle or cost of a electrician running cable in the wall.

I am really happy with how it turned out, so I thought I would share how I did it. First I bought a wooden shelf bracket, this is a really cheap basic one from B&Q but you could go fancy and have metal or something more ornate. You could also just use a simple hook or hanging basket bracket.

I then made sure my flex would reach plugged in to the height I wanted the light before I attached the bracket to the wall. I then ran the flex up the wall and wrapped it around the bracket, attached my lamp shade (from habitat) and added a bulb. It was that simple.

I then realised that other people may have the same problem, so I decided to sell my fabric flex and bulbs separately from my lights.

My cables come in 3 colours, natural, olive green and mustard yellow, so you can add a pop of colour running up the wall instead of unattractive black plastic cables. The flex has a switch, so it is easy to use as a wall light and a lamp fitting that works with E14 bulbs and shades like the one I used.
